Returning to harbour

Returning to harbor, acrylic, 21x30cm (framed 36x45cm)

This painting, one of a series of sunsets, was inspired by seeing an early work by Anselm Kiefer. There is something deeply appealing about a boat silhouetted against a dramatic sunset. We too will return to harbor in the setting sun.

Butterfly

Peacock Butterfly, acrylic and pastel, 21x30cm (framed 36x45cm)

On seeing some butterflies in late summer I was inspired to try to re-capture the brilliant abstract patterns on their wings.

Dancing waves

Dancing Waves, acrylic 21x 30cm

Dancing Waves tries to capture the feeling of dance, in straight and curving lines, informed by my experience of tango. A version of this painting is in a private collection, displayed horizontally.

Cosmic forms

Cosmic forms, acrylic, 21x30cm

Out of chaos comes order, then order reverts to chaos. Cosmic Forms was inspired by the fragmented abstracts of William Gear. It is a companion to my picture Wave Form. One is a pattern of order, the other a pattern of creative chaos.

Garden Studio

Most of my sculpture is housed in my garden studio in Kew, which began life as a potting shed. I sometimes have an open studio there, or contact me by email if you would like to visit.

Dancers

Dancers (after Allen Jones), acrylic, 21x30cm

My inspiration here was an Allen Jones lithograph called ‘Paso Doble’ which seemed to me to catch the essence of my favourite dance – the tango. I have painted several version of this print, in acrylics, experimenting by modifying the composition and altering the colours. As Picasso once said 'Great artists don't borrow, they steal.' However I see this version not so much as an act of theft but as a homage to one of my favourite contemporary artists.
